'Taming of Light' video projection mapping

On 12 and 13 of October the festival of light PROSVET was held in Perm for the first time. It brought together a number of well-known Russian audiovisual and light collectives and artists who for several days transformed the architectural image of city. Participants had different urban locations at their disposal (The Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre,The Shpagin factory, TV Tower, ferris wheel and Kungur ice cave) in order to display of multimedia shows and light installations. Our team worked on the creation of audiovisual content for the projection show а Taming of Light on the facade of The Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. We addressed to the history and symbolism of light, as well as to its meaning for a human life. We also implemented building’s architectural features to turn the facade into a giant projection surface. The plot of the 3-minute show is based on the idea of journey that viewers make with rays, waves and particles of light, from legends to scientific breakthroughs related to light and their use in modern life. We included in the narrative the scenes of worship of local gods, folk ornaments; symbolically showed the prism of Newton and made a ballerina one of the key characters. Thus we paid tribute to the culture and art of Perm and presented the location where the show took place.The soundtrack and the light score also were specially written to the show. In 2 days of the event more than 10 000 people have watched it.
